Ages of Conflict Maps and Scenarios: What Is Documented

There is no official list of the maps in Ages of Conflict. The itch.io page says only that the game "comes with multiple pre-made maps and scenarios", and Steam says "premade Maps and Scenarios". What exists is the developer's dated devlog, which names maps and scenarios when it adds, remakes, fixes or removes them. This page collects those names, with the first and latest post that mentions each, and marks everything the posts leave open. We have not opened the game's menus ourselves (see "What we did not test"). We have not tested the full version ourselves; details below come from the developer's devlog and store pages.

A map is the land and borders; a scenario is a starting situation on a map, with nations, cities and often alliances. The developer treats them as separate things, so the tables do too.

Is any of this in the free browser demo?

Not stated by the developer, for any individual map. What the public sources do say:

QuestionWhat the sources saySource
Does the free version still exist? In 2022 the developer said the itch.io version "will remain free and work as a demo".Devlog 2022-10-18
What does the full version add?The itch.io page lists "Larger maps, Pre-made Scenarios, Robust Scenario Creator" under its Full Version heading.itch.io page
Which maps does the demo contain? Not stated. The page labels two free downloads (Windows, Linux) v1.4.3 and lists HTML5 as a platform, but gives no map list and does not say whether the browser build is v1.4.3.itch.io page
Were any maps added while the free version was the main one?Four maps came in v1.03 (2022-10-06) and two in v1.04.2 (2022-10-18). The second post is the one announcing the free/paid split, and it does not say whether the demo kept them.Posts in the next table

Removed or replaced, according to the posts: the Small World Map (removed 2024-10-21 because three world maps "seemed quite excessive"), Two Frontiers (2022), and the old Japan and Arabian Sea maps (remade as East Asia and Middle East).

That makes 16 maps named as present at some point and still unmarked as removed, plus four named as removed or replaced. It is a count of names found in posts, not a count of what the game contains.

Middle East2025Added 2025-04-04; map named again 2026-04-23

Twenty-one distinct scenario names are listed above: World Map 7, Europe 6, Asia 3 (908, 1936 and 2026), Middle East 1, Northern Europe 1, and one each for Americas, Africa and USA, which adds up to 21. The v3.1.0 post (2024-02-09) also mentions a current-day Asia scenario; no post says whether that is the one now called Asia 2026, so it is not counted separately. The v4.3.4 post (2026-01-05) says the current-day default scenarios were updated to 2026; whether the 2025 versions still ship alongside them is not stated.

What the remakes changed

On 2025-04-04 the developer remade five maps ("many of them much larger", with terrain for the first time). Sizes are in pixels, as given in the post:

MapBeforeAfter
East Asia (was Japan)209×200600×358, now includes the Chinese coast
Middle East (was Arabian Sea)250×138600×450, India removed, Turkey included
Northern Europe244×244350×460, complete Baltic coast
Oceania300×164440×300, north now up
Pangea175×258400×550

Terrain on the map

The posts name Tundra (v4.0.0), Forest (v3.4.2, slightly more defensible than plain land, less gold), Grassland (v4.2.0, slightly less valuable than plain land) plus hills and mountains in passing. In v3.4.2 the developer said terrain now matters most when a tile is first discovered, with desert and tundra slowest and hills next; the post suggests trying a desert-heavy map such as Africa to see it. Rules for how nations use the land are on Mechanics.

Community maps and the editor

Steam's Workshop has a Cartographer's Corner for player-made maps, scenarios and flag packs. On 1 November 2026 the browse page reported 33,934 items across Maps and Scenarios categories (Historical, Alternative History, Fantasy, Modern Day) and Flag Packs (Workshop). That is the community's output, not the game's built-in list. The itch.io download has no Workshop support, and the mobile version won't have it either (2023-02-28 post, 2023-08-10 post).

v4.5.2 (2026-10-31) also lets players sort their own saved scenarios into groups in the menu (post).

The developer also runs map contests on Discord (results posted to Steam on 2026-06-26, a new one announced 2026-10-16). The October post says winning maps "have the opportunity to be considered as additions to the base game at the end of early access". Nothing says which maps, or when.

Editor limits stated in v3.2.4 (2024-06-25): 360,000 pixels overall; imported maps up to 4 million pixels, with a warning above 500,000 that they "might not run well" (post). These are 2024 figures.

Where the posts are unclear

  • World map names. Posts use XL, Large, Normal, Small and, in 2025, "World Map Classic". The v3.0.3 post says the previous large world map became the normal one; no post says which map "Classic" is.
  • Japan. v4.0.4 (2025-04-04) replaced Japan with East Asia, yet the v4.0.5 notes (2025-04-20) still list a fix for "Japan".
  • Middle East. A Middle East map was added in 2022, and the 2025 remake is described as turning the "Arabian Sea" map into Middle East. No post says they are the same map.

What we did not test

We did not buy or play the full version, and we did not play the free browser demo, the downloadable demo or the mobile apps for this page. We have not opened any map list in the game. Everything above comes from published posts and store pages; where a source is silent, the page says so.

Not stated by the developer

  • A total number of maps or scenarios, in any version.
  • Which maps and scenarios the free demo (browser or download) contains.
  • Whether North America, Middle Earth and Istanbul Area still ship.
  • Whether both 2025 and 2026 current-day scenarios ship.
